SENATE LEADERS TO VISIT PAPAHANA ʻO KAIONA ALTERNATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM IN WAIʻANAE

Members of the Hawaiʻi State Senate will be visiting with students and educators from the Papahana ʻo Kaiona Alternative Learning Program (Papahana ʻo Kaiona) to learn more about disrupting the pathway to prison and ensuring smooth transitions into the community post-secondary education.

Native Hawaiians accounted for roughly 48% of the Alternative Learning Program population in School Year 2020-2021, consistent with the high representation (25%) of Native Hawaiian youth arrests in 2020. Senators will have the opportunity to participate in a number of activities and experience a day as a Papahana ʻo Kaiona student.
