GOVERNOR RELEASES $6,900,000.00 FOR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN SENATE DISTRICT 1

Governor David Ige recently released $6,900,000 in capital improvement

project funds for major repairs and demolition to existing structures at the Waiākea Research Station on Hawaiʻi Island.

Senator Lorraine R. Inouye (District 1 – Hilo, Paukaʻa, Papaikou, Pepeʻekeo) issued the following statement:

“I am beyond thrilled that Governor Ige has released funds to finance major repairs and demolition to existing structures at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Waiākea Research Station. The Waiākea Research Station serves as an important site for conducting research on agricultural and floriculture production in Hawaiʻi. However, most of the buildings were built in the mid-1960's and mid-1970's, and the station infrastructure is in serious need of renovation to restore its functionality. This project aims to restore the functionality and safety of the station. Research is a vital component of promoting our local food and floral industries and keeping the State on track to meet its food sustainability goals."
