HONOLULU, HI - A college education is a greater reality for local students across the state now that a program that provides financing to help them attend community colleges was signed into law on June 1st.
The Hawai‘i Promise program was launched last fall as a pilot, allowing some 1,500 eligible students the opportunity and resources to attend community colleges here. On average, students received $1,200 each, which covered direct costs such as tuition and books. HB2501 (Act 14) appropriates $700,000 for fiscal year 2018-2019 to the Hawai‘i Promise fund, raising the total appropriation for the program to $2.5 million and makes it a permanent program.
