HONOLULU, Hawai‘i – The Hawai‘i State Senate today voted to confirm Laurel Johnston to serve as deputy director of the Department of Budget and Finance. Johnston was appointed by Governor David Ige to fill the position when Rod Becker was appointed in November 2016 to serve as the state comptroller.
Over the last 30 years, Johnston has served in a diverse array of public service positions including as a public administrator, researcher, and policy writer. She most recently served as Governor Ige’s deputy Chief of Staff. Prior to joining the Governor’s staff, she was the director of the University of Hawai‘i System Budget Office. Johnston has a Master of Science degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology, both from Florida State University.
